LEGISLATIVE UPDATES/REMINDERS
- The two (2) proposals outlined below will be in effect starting August 1, 2008. Now that the override period has ended, please be sure to look over the other NCAA proposals that will be going into effect starting August 1, 2008. We also urge you to be proactive and look at these proposals now so that we can anticipate any questions or concerns before the legislation goes into effect.
2007-78 AWARDS, BENEFITS AND EXPENSES -- HOUSING AND MEALS -- MEALS INCIDENTAL TO PARTICIPATION -- HOME AND AWAY-FROM-HOME COMPETITION -- DISCRETIONARY MEALS
Status: Adopted - Final
Intent: To permit an institution to provide meals in conjunction with home competition to student-athletes at its discretion beginning with the evening before competition and continuing to the end of competition; further to permit an institution to provide meals in conjunction with away-from-home competition at its discretion from the time the team is required to report on call for team travel until the team returns to campus.
2007-79 AWARDS, BENEFITS AND EXPENSES -- HOUSING AND MEALS -- MEALS INCIDENTAL TO PARTICIPATION -- MEALS FOLLOWING HOME AND AWAY-FROM-HOME COMPETITION -- MEAL OR $15
Status: Adopted - Final
Intent: To permit an institution to provide student-athletes at home and away-from-home competition with either a postgame meal or cash in lieu of the meal not to exceed $15, on release by institutional personnel.

2007-33-A RECRUITING -- COMMUNICATION DURING JULY EVALUATION PERIODS -- AFTER NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT SIGNING OR OTHER WRITTEN COMMITMENT -- WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Status: Adopted - Final Process Diagram
Intent: In women's basketball, to permit an institution to communicate with a prospective student-athlete (or the prospective student-athlete's relatives, legal guardians or coach) during the July evaluation periods, provided the prospective student-athlete has graduated from high school and has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with the institution or for those institutions not using the National Letter of Intent in women's basketball or for those prospective student-athletes who are not eligible to sign the National Letter of Intent, the institution's written offer of admission and/or financial aid.
2007-111 RECRUITING -- CONTACTS AND EVALUATIONS -- MEN'S BASKETBALL -- SUMMER EVALUATION PERIOD -- NONINSTITUTIONAL NONORGANIZED EVENTS

Intent: In men's basketball, to prohibit evaluations at noninstitutional nonorganized events (e.g., pick-up games) during the summer evaluation period.
